Welcome to Listening: A review of your healthcare options for the New Year By Dedie King, Clinical Director A major topic in the political arena this year is health care. No matter how the insurance changes, however, the best path is to stay healthy by taking care of ourselves and attending to the first signs of imbalance. The most important thing we can all do to feel well and save money on our health care in the long run is to first be responsible for the basics. This means getting enough sleep every night, eating regular meals made of healthy and nutritious food, and getting some exercise every day. It is also important to have fun and enjoy relationships with friends and community. Sometimes when we get overly stressed or are weighed down by physical pain or an illness, however, it is difficult to bring ourselves back to a good place. Listening is here to provide the community with a wide variety of practitioners to help restore balance. The gift of complementary medicine is that it can diagnose and treat problems while they are still at the early level and before they become organic disease. Of course, it can help alleviate more chronic and serious problems as well. To maintain good mental health and to help with the stress of work and relationships, Listening has a group of excellent psychotherapists and counselors: Michael Jaro, Laura Fasano, Donna O'Brian, and Debbie Ennis. In addition, Listening has a wonderful bio-energetic physical therapist, Paula Wood, and a new chiropractor, Jaime Lubelczyk. We also have a massage therapist, Sophie Santoro, who offers a variety of types of massage therapy. And finally Dedie King offers Five Element acupuncture, a form of Chinese medicine which energetically treats people on all the levels for good balance. For movement, Listening has a beautiful yoga studio with many top notch yoga teachers, including Megan McDonough, Bev Duda, Loren Magruder, Roberta Lewis, and Bonnie Waterhouse, as well as pilates teacher Linda Maznick and martial arts teacher, Brad Warren. New this winter, Listening will also offer ballet and jazz dance classes for all ages with instructor Renee Carleen. We also have a number of community partners associated with Listening. Wellness Coach Pat Roix is new this year as is Jim Arsenault, who offers Life Coaching, and Nutrition Counselor Dawn Sulmasy. To help young children get a good start Listening offers classes every day after school. These include cooking, art, dance, Spanish, martial arts and yoga. Any one of the therapies offered at Listening affects one on all the levels of body/mind/spirit.. What also makes complementary care special is that there is the learning on the part of the participant to become more attuned to their own growth and health processes. We are each in control of our own health and Listening is here to be a good partner to you on your path. Please give us a call to see how we can help you maintain a healthy and happy year. |
