Massage is an age-old therapy of physical manipulation of soft tissue, which improves the general circulation and nutrition of bodily tissues. It is profoundly relaxing, yet also energizing. Studies show that adults, as well as children, benefit from regular touch, which is important for immune system function, pain control, mental health and stress reduction. Massage also helps to improve sleep patterns and pain tolerance, and to increase one s ability to pay attention and function efficiently. It can increase serotonin production, thus enhancing mood, and can help to break the cycle of chronic pain. Receiving massage on a regular basis has cumulative benefits and helps us to be more attuned to our bodies and emotions.
Wendy Bolognesi brings years over 24 years of experience to her massage practice. In addition to her work as a massage therapist in her hometown of Hardwick, Wendy practices at the Bancroft School of Massage in Worcester, where she has been an instructor since 1993. While Wendy does enjoy offering Swedish style massage, much of her practice is devoted to Asian styles of bodywork, such as Shiatsu, Acupressure and Thai Massage, which incorporate the use of acupoints and meridiens, as well as yoga-like stretches.
Éowyn Ahlstrom LMT, RYT, has seen her own life profoundly transformed through the practice of yoga, meditation and bodywork. Where once there was despair, now there’s equanimity. Where there was fear, trust grows. A sense of isolation has given way to deepening connections and care. Physical malaise has been replaced by strength and ease. The process is ongoing and endlessly surprising.
Now Éowyn’s intention is to help others find their own unique skillful means for fostering such change. She works to provide support and guidance to her students and clients as they develop the art and skills of internal transformation. The framework of her offering is group yoga and meditation classes and private bodywork and yoga sessions.
Éowyn offers massage therapy treatments personalized to meet your needs for relaxation, healing, and rejuvenation. During your first visit we will discuss your overall health and your needs for the session, and then address them specifically through the massage. The therapy will always be based on shared understanding. Respect, mindful awareness and compassion will guide our work together.
Sophie King Santoro obtained her license in massage therapy from The Swedish Institute in New York City in 2001, with well over 1200 hours of training. She started a successful private practice in Berkeley, CA as well as providing medical massage for a prominent chiropractor. She has developed strong skills in both Eastern and Western styles of massage. Drawing upon the strengths of each, Sophie emphasizes the integration of the two styles. She has in-depth training in anatomy, physiology, myology, kinesiology, neurology, pathology and Chinese Five Element theory. She has worked in a holistic therapy center, a yoga studio, with the elderly, at sporting events, in wellness centers, and with chair massage companies. Sophie has always been interested in health, and received a B.A. in anthropology from Oberlin College, concentrating on the interaction of religious beliefs and health practices. Sophie brings her presence, with her knowledge, experience, and sensitivity to each session.
